Why you have joined the Mavericks:
I like the idea of being involved with a group of diverse business individuals. I’ve been part of a large oilfield charity hockey tournament for 16 years (still involved) and have raised close to a million dollars but since I don’t play anymore I would like to move onto something else where I can be more active and I believe this group’s activities, chucks, golf, fund raising all fits with things that I like to be involved with. I really like how your group mixes having responsible fun and the charity association makes it rewarding.

Your Thoughts/Views on Charitable Causes:
Another reason why I like the Mavericks is that it seems your focal point is to help “children’s” charities. This is something I strongly believe in. In my association with raising money for various charities over the years through the hockey tournament I run I have not yet run across a bad charity, they all have merit. I just find the children’s charities more rewarding in helping them to move on to better things in life that they have no control over or in some cases to just survive.

Who is an inspiration to you?
Again through my associations I’ve met through the hockey tournament I have met some pretty incredible people working for charitable causes to help those who are less fortunate in life have something that will make their life just a little bit better. Bob is a guy whom I admire greatly. He has devoted his career to making sandwiches every school day for kids who would otherwise have a lunch at school. His organization is called Brown Bagging it for Calgary Kids. They now make close to 2000 lunches every school day. Bob is the guy who identified the need and did something about it. Bob is a guy I greatly admire!

How will you measure the success within the Mavericks this year?
Obviously any event or fundraiser needs to be successful. If we can present a cheque, the bigger the better, to our chosen charities then I think that would be successful. I think the fun of putting it all together and participating is a no brainer.
