Mavericks Member: Ken Moen Maverick since: 2005 Organization/Employment Name: Scollard Energy Inc. What is your Role within your Organization? Operations Manager Why you have joined the Mavericks: It was an opportunity I could not pass up. To join a group of individuals that not only raises a significant amount of money for charitable causes, but also gets involved with the charities and has fun in the process. Combine that with Stampede, cold beer, and chuckwagon racing and it was an easy decision. Your Thoughts/Views on Charitable Causes: I believe we have an obligation to give back to the community if we have the means, either financially or with our time. Governments use our tax dollars to tackle the large issues (typically with large organizations). However, there are a number of good causes/groups that need additional funding or do not have the knowledge/skills to access government funding. I believe groups like the Mavericks should target these smaller organizations where the dollars get to the people that need assistance. It’s easy (and never ending) to write cheques and not know where the money goes. It’s rewarding to contribute financially and know where the money is going and what it is being used for. Who is an inspiration to you? My Parents and two friends, Glen Scott and Marlin Styner, that both suffered extreme physical setbacks and rebounded better than anyone could have expected. How will you measure the success within the Mavericks this year? Meeting our charitable goals while having fun in the process. Other Points of Interest: Family: No wife, no kids, folks in Red Deer, brother in Sherwood Park Favourite Country Star: Tough choice, gotta go with the real JC, Johnny Cash. Brad Stangeland after 10 Sleemans is a close second. Favourite Western Movie: Blazing Saddles Hobbies/Activities: Golf, Hockey, Travel, cold beer with good friends. Golf Handicap: 18 Copyright ©2004-2010 Mavericks Chuckwagon Racing Team. All rights reserved. |
